Psychiatric Medication Management

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

  • What is integrative health?

Integrative health is a whole-person approach to care that looks beyond symptoms to understand the connection between your mind, body, and lifestyle.
At Rooted in Serenity Behavioral Health, this means we combine evidence-based medication management with attention to sleep, nutrition, stress, movement, and emotional wellbeing.
Our goal is to help you feel balanced and resilient—not just symptom-free—through thoughtful, collaborative care that supports every part of your health.

  • Do you see adults via telehealth and in person?
Yes. We provide telehealth statewide across Connecticut and in-person appointments in Middlebury, CT. Care is integrative and trauma-informed—attentive to mind, body, and daily life.

  • How soon can I schedule?
Most new patients are seen within 1–2 weeks. Current availability varies. You can request an appointment anytime on our Appointment page.

  • What conditions do you treat?
Common concerns include anxiety, depression, ADHD, insomnia/sleep disturbance, stress and life transitions, emotional dysregulation, and trauma-related symptoms. Check out the Services Page for more detailed information.

Insurance, Self-Pay & Billing

  • Which insurance plans do you accept?
We’re in network with many major plans, including UnitedHealthcare/Optum, Aetna, Cigna, ConnectiCare, Oxford, and HUSKY Health (CT Medicaid). Coverage varies by plan; we recommend confirming benefits directly with your insurer.

  • Do you accept HUSKY (CT Medicaid)?
Yes—HUSKY Health (CT Medicaid) is accepted. We’re happy to help you understand next steps for scheduling.

  • Can I use out-of-network benefits?
If your plan offers out-of-network (OON) coverage, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement. We provide superbills with CPT and diagnosis codes for you to submit to your insurer.

  • Do you offer self-pay rates and a Good Faith Estimate?
Yes. Transparent self-pay rates are available (Initial Evaluation, Follow-Up, Extended Follow-Up). In accordance with the No Surprises Act, self-pay clients receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of expected costs.

Appointments & Policies

  • What happens at the first visit?
Your initial evaluation is a welcoming, judgment-free space. We review your mental health history, current concerns, medical background, and lifestyle factors (sleep, stress, routines). Together we clarify goals and discuss options, including medication management and supportive mind-body strategies when appropriate.

  • How long are follow-up visits?
Standard follow-ups are typically ~30 minutes; extended follow-ups (~40 minutes) allow deeper review. Complexity—not only duration—can influence coding and cost.

  • What is your cancellation/no-show policy?
We kindly ask for 24 business hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or no-shows are subject to a fee (not billable to insurance).

Medication & Refills

  • How do refills work?
Please request refills through your patient portal with 3 business days’ notice. For safety, regular follow-ups are required to continue prescriptions.

  • Do you prescribe controlled substances (e.g., stimulants for ADHD, benzodiazepines)?
We prescribe controlled medications when clinically appropriate and safe. This may include periodic urine drug screens, treatment agreements, and coordination of care. Benzodiazepines are used cautiously and only on a short-term when clinically indicated.

  • Do you provide Suboxone or medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?
No. Rooted in Serenity does not offer Suboxone, buprenorphine, or other MAT medications for opioid use disorder. Patients who need these services are encouraged to seek specialized addiction medicine or dual-diagnosis programs.
