🍂 Why We Feel Drained This Time of Year

Gentle reminders for navigating seasonal fatigue

As the days grow shorter and the air turns colder, many people notice a quiet shift in their energy. You might feel more tired, less motivated, or emotionally heavier than usual—and that’s not your imagination. Our bodies and minds respond deeply to seasonal change.

Less daylight affects the body’s natural rhythms and serotonin levels, which can influence mood and focus. Add in busier schedules, upcoming holidays, and shorter evenings, and it’s no surprise many of us feel a bit off balance.

If you’ve noticed yourself feeling more fatigued, forgetful, or simply not like your usual self, you’re not alone. This time of year asks us to slow down—a rhythm that can feel unfamiliar in a culture that encourages constant movement.

Here are a few gentle ways to support yourself through the transition:

Honor rest as essential, not optional. Try setting aside even 15 minutes of quiet each evening to decompress.
Seek light and movement. Step outside in the morning light when you can—it signals your brain to stay alert during the day and rest at night.
Stay connected. Reach out to trusted people when you notice isolation creeping in. Connection is one of the best antidotes to seasonal fatigue.

If these feelings linger or start to affect your daily life, it may be more than a seasonal dip. You can read more about how Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) shows up and ways to support your mood here.

And if upcoming gatherings or family stress are already on your mind, stay tuned for next week’s post: Coping with Holiday Stress and Family Dynamics.

Gentle reminder: there’s nothing wrong with needing a slower pace this season. Nature slows down too—and healing often happens in that quiet.
